Proyecto 2: Un país hispanohablante (A Spanish Speaking Country)

Work: individually

Time: 2 weeks (100 minutes)

Objectives:
1.Use a word processor in Spanish.
2.Create a web page or a brochure about a Spanish speaking country.

Objective 1: Use a word processor in Spanish

Instructions:
1. Open this Microsoft Word file. Click on Edit and then Select All. Next, click on Tools and then choose Language. Set the language to Spanish. For Mac users: there is only one option. For Windows users: you may choose any of the countries, or Modern Spanish.
2.Run the Spelling and Grammar check or right-click on the underlined words and correct the words.
3.If you run the Spelling and Grammar check, you will see a message in Spanish for the phrases that need an interrogative (¿?) or an exclamation (¡!) symbol. It says that you are missing a symbol. Ignore the message.
4.To insert the missing symbols click on Insert then Symbol. Make the necessary changes and save the document.
5.The document will still have several mistakes. Correct as many mistakes you can and save the document again. Upload the document to your e-portfolio with the name Documento corregido, or Corrected document.

Objective 2: Web page or brochure

Instructions:

1.Choose what type of document you will produce, a web page or a brochure. For a web page you may use any web page editor or save your Word file as HTML. You may use this Word template. If you choose to produce a brochure, you may use a brochure template from Word or you may use this one. Look at the following chart. You will write about the country listed next to the first letter of your last name. For example, if your last name is Smith, your country is Panama.

A, B = España = Spain
C = Argentina
D = Bolivia
E = Chile
F = Colombia
G = Costa Rica
H = Cuba
I, J = República Dominicana = Dominican Republic
K = Ecuador
L = Estados Unidos
M = Guatemala
N= Guinea Ecuatorial =Equatorial Guinea
O = Honduras
P, Q = México
R = Nicaragua
S = Panamá
T = Paraguay
U = Perú
V = Puerto Rico
W = El Salvador
X, Y= Uruguay
Z, Hyphenated names = Venezuela

2.Go to the CIA Factbook.
3.Select your country and scan the facts about it. Choose two or three facts that interest you and copy them into a word processor or text file. Note: the sections are Introduction, Geography, People, Government, Economy, Communications, Transportation, Military and Transnational Issues. You may want to read about two different sections.
4.Now go to Lonelyplanet.com and type the name of your country in the Destinations box. You may also click on the map and choose your country. Click on the sections called “See” (on the left) or “Background.” The article may not have any pictures, but if it does you may copy that picture onto your document. Again, read two or three facts about your country.
5.If there are no pictures of your country, then go to Google, Yahoo! or any other search engine and get two or three pictures. At this point you may know the name of at least one place from the country you are reading about. Use that information to look for pictures.
6.Now go to Expedia, Orbitz, Yahoo! Travel, Travelocity, or any other travel site and look for flights from Richmond or Washington, DC to the capital or another important city of your country. You will depart next weekend and come back after a week. Print the “ticket” or save it in a PDF file.
7.You will have at least four facts about your country, some pictures, and the price of a ticket to get there. Using this information, write a short paragraph in English about your country. Save your file, but now as an HTML file or web file.
8.Find a newspaper or magazine from your country. Look at the sections and pick one article. Write a paragraph about it. You may use this template. Save your page.
9.Upload your web page or brochure to your e-portfolio. Your instructor may ask you to print the brochure and bring it to class for a mini-presentation.

Extra: Add the ticket information to your web page or brochure.

OFF- Only For Fun: In a search engine –Google, Yahoo, etc. --type either “television”, “musica” or “radio” and the name of the country in Spanish. Try to read, watch or listen to music or shows from that country. You may add the links to your page.
