Proyecto 5: Mi tiempo libre (Free Time)

Work: individually

Time: 3 weeks (150 minutes)

Objective

Create a video that is 4 to 5 minutes long or a brochure in which you talk about your free time.

Alternate project: create a video 4 to 5 minute in length or a brochure in which you interview a Spanish speaker.

NOTES: 20 POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED FROM THE FINAL GRADE OF THE PROJECT IF A VIDEO IS OVER 6 MINUTES, HAS LONG PAUSES, OR IS REPETITIVE.

Instructions:

1.Make a list of what you usually do in your free time. Make another list of what you want or like to do.
2.Pick two Spanish speaking countries from the list according to the following criteria: 1)the country next to the second letter of your first name; 2) the country next to the last letter of your first name --note: if the two letters are the same, then pick the country next to the last letter of your last name; 3)these two countries have to be different from the one you wrote about in project 2.

A, B = España = Spain
C = Argentina
D = Bolivia
E = Chile
F = Colombia
G = Costa Rica
H = Cuba
I, J = República Dominicana = Dominican Republic
K = Ecuador
L = Estados Unidos
M = Guatemala
N= Guinea Ecuatorial =Equatorial Guinea
O = Honduras
P, Q = México
R = Nicaragua
S = Panamá
T = Paraguay
U = Perú
V = Puerto Rico
W = El Salvador
X, Y= Uruguay
Z, Hyphenated names = Venezuela

3.If you don't know the words in Spanish, use your dictionary or the Google translator to find the Spanish word(s) for your pastime(s).
4. Do research on line. Find out: a)If your pastimes are popular in the two countries you picked plus the one you talked about in project 2. b)If they are not popular, then what are the favorite pastimes in these countries. c)A singer/actor from each country and why they are popular.
5.Write your script. Include the following information: when you have free time (summer, winter, weekends), what you usually do in your free time, what you like to do and where. Then say that you are going to visit (ir + a + infinitive) three Spanish speaking countries, mention their names and the pastimes you can do/practice there and what people from those countries like to do. Mention the famous singers/actors as well.
6.Record the audio. NOTE: if you choose to prepare a brochure, you still have to record your script and save it on your e-portfolio along with your brochure.
7.Decide what your final product will be –a video or a brochure. Then gather pictures or shoot your video.

Suggestions:
Read your script several times until it sounds natural.

Extra:
Find websites from your three countries dedicated to your pastimes and include the links at the end of your script or on the last page of your brochure.

OFF:
Pretend that you are a famous person in the world of your pastime and that you are writing a blog for your fans. Or pretend that you are an expert on free time in the Spanish speaking world.

Instructions for the alternate project:

Create a video 4 to 5 minute long in which you interview a Spanish speaker. If the individual is very motivated and the interview becomes a dialogue, you will not be penalized if the video is more than 6 minutes long. However, if you remain silent and the other person talks and talks, you will be penalized. The idea is that you have to be able to have a dialogue (conversation) with the individual, not to tape a monologue.

1.Find an experienced or native Spanish speaker and ask them if you can interview them for your project. Even if you know them already, ask for their permission to be videotaped.
2.Before you continue, inform your instructor about your project.
3.Write ten (10) questions in Spanish. The questions have to be about one topic and need to follow a logical sequence. Examples of topics: sports, free time in their home city or country, work, or any other subject covered in Spanish 101.
4.Videotape the interview. Save it in your e-portfolio with the name entrevista
5.Your instructor may give you additional instructions.
